Altitude Sports Returns to Xfinity, Ending Four-Year Blackout for Denver Sports Fans

A long-standing broadcasting dispute that left millions of regional sports fans unable to watch their hometown teams has finally concluded as Altitude Sports returns to Xfinity TV throughout Colorado and neighboring states. The agreement between Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) and Comcast provides subscribers access to all live game broadcasts of the NBA's Denver Nuggets and NHL's Colorado Avalanche, addressing a significant gap in local sports coverage that has persisted since 2019.

The resolution comes at a crucial time for Denver sports fans, with both the Nuggets and Avalanche performing at championship levels. Xfinity customers can now access Altitude Sports on channel 1250 in the Denver market through the More Sports and Entertainment (MSE) package, priced at $15.95 starting April 8. The package is available as an add-on for subscribers to Xfinity's Sports & News, Popular TV, or Ultimate TV video services.

The agreement's significance extends beyond traditional cable viewing, as Xfinity internet-only customers can now subscribe to live-game streaming through the Altitude+ app for $19.95 monthly. This multi-platform approach reflects the evolving nature of sports consumption and provides fans with flexible viewing options.

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston emphasized the timing's importance, noting the historical significance of being able to watch stars like Nathan MacKinnon and Nikola Jokić during their prime years. The deal's structure ensures comprehensive coverage, as Popular TV and Ultimate TV packages include national networks that carry designated Nuggets and Avalanche games – ABC, ESPN, and TNT – making every game available through one service provider.

The agreement maintains existing free over-the-air broadcasts of select games on 9NEWS and My20, which will continue to be available on all Xfinity plans with local channels. This preservation of free access, combined with the new premium options, creates a comprehensive viewing solution for regional sports fans.

The resolution of this long-standing dispute represents a significant development for regional sports broadcasting, potentially setting a precedent for similar negotiations nationwide. As sports rights continue to fragment across multiple platforms and providers, this agreement demonstrates the possibility of finding solutions that serve both traditional cable subscribers and streaming-only customers while maintaining broad access to local sports content.
