Angkor Resources Subsidiary Identifies Four Drill Targets in Cambodian Oil and Gas Block

By FisherVista

TL;DR

Angkor Resources Corp. identifies four drill targets in Cambodia's Block VIII, offering potential first-mover advantage in an undrilled fold-belt with large anticlines similar to productive Thai fields.

EnerCam Resources analyzed 350-line km of seismic data across four subbasins, mapping structural traps up to 100 sq km and planning 3000m wells to test multiple prospective zones.

This exploration could help Cambodia become an oil and gas producing nation, potentially creating energy independence and economic development opportunities for the country's future.

Angkor Resources discovered exceptionally rare undrilled fold-belt structures in Cambodia, resembling Wyoming's early exploration days, with anticlines covering tens of square kilometers in the Bokor subbasins.

Angkor Resources Subsidiary Identifies Four Drill Targets in Cambodian Oil and Gas Block

Angkor Resources Corp. announced its energy subsidiary, EnerCam Resources Cambodia Co. Ltd., has identified four drill targets for exploratory oil and gas wells across Block VIII in Cambodia. The identification follows the final interpretation of a seismic program covering 350-line kilometers across four subbasins within the 4,095 square kilometer license area.

The technical team completed interpretation of seismic data from the South, Central, and North Bokor subbasins on the west side of Block VIII, along with the Kirirom subbasin in the northeast corner. Dr. David Johnson, Qualified Professional for Angkor Resources, described the discovery of an undrilled fold-belt with multiple anticlines featuring four-way closures as exceptionally rare. He noted the basin shows clear analogs to the producing Nam Phong and Sinphuhorm fields of Thailand's Khorat Basin, where significant gas production has occurred over the past two decades.

Structural traps in the Bokor subbasins appear as a north-south trend of multiple large, elongated anticlines along the leading edge of a fold belt. Seismic mapping revealed four-way closures covering substantial areas: South Bokor with a mean area of 57 square kilometers, Central Bokor with 54 square kilometers, and North Bokor with 100 square kilometers. Additionally, a stratigraphic trap with an estimated area of 28 square kilometers is present in the Kirirom subbasin.

In all three Bokor structures, primary traps are expected in gently folded seals and reservoirs adjacent to angular unconformities, with secondary traps potentially existing in sections below, between, and above the primary targets. This configuration means each well could potentially find multiple gas or oil accumulations. The Bokor structures bear striking resemblance to traps in the Khorat basin, suggesting similar hydrocarbon potential. The next step involves tendering and undertaking an Environmental Impact Assessment on the targeted drilling areas. Drilling is planned to test two primary objectives in each Bokor basin well, with depths potentially exceeding 3,000 meters to evaluate two prospective zones per hole. Teams of up to eight geoscientists continue refining interpretation and definition of drill target stratigraphy.

This development represents Cambodia's potential entry into onshore oil and gas production. The identification of drill targets follows EnerCam's completion of seismic work in 2025 and marks progress toward drilling what could be Cambodia's first onshore exploratory wells. The company also announced granting 250,000 stock options to consultants assisting with business development, issued in accordance with company policies and subject to TSX Venture Exchange approval.
