The Atlanta Community Food Bank is calling on community members to participate in its 41st annual Hunger Walk Run, with registration closing on March 7. The event, scheduled for March 9 at The Home Depot Backyard, represents a crucial effort to address mounting food assistance needs in the region.
Food insecurity remains a significant challenge in Georgia, with 1 in 5 children facing hunger. Through this event, participants can directly contribute to meal provision, with walkers generating 90 meals and runners contributing 120 meals per registration. Over its 40-year history, the Hunger Walk Run has raised more than $15.5 million, translating to over 46 million meals distributed to those in need.
Kyle Waide, President and CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, emphasized the event's importance, highlighting the critical role community involvement plays in addressing hunger. The organization serves over 715,000 food-insecure individuals through a network of more than 700 nonprofit partners across metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
Participants can register online for $30 for walkers and $40 for runners, with day-of registration available at a higher rate. The event welcomes individuals and teams of all ages and abilities, offering a festive atmosphere with music, food vendors, and warm-up activities.
