The Atlanta Community Food Bank will host its 42nd annual Hunger Walk Run on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from Noon to 4 pm at The Home Depot Backyard, with a virtual participation option also available. This community event comes at a critical time as the organization faces the highest demand for food assistance since the pandemic, making public support more vital than ever for hunger relief efforts across the region.
Every registration directly translates to meals for community members experiencing food insecurity. Each walker registration helps provide 90 meals, while each runner registration provides 120 meals for neighbors in need. Since its inception in 1984, the Hunger Walk Run has raised more than $16 million for hunger relief, enough to provide over 48 million meals through the Atlanta Community Food Bank and five other local hunger relief organizations that benefit from the event.
"Hunger Walk Run is a highly anticipated event that rallies thousands from our community to take steps toward fighting hunger," said Kyle Waide, President & CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. "Every person who participates, whether on-site or virtually, helps make a difference, and their support enables the Food Bank and other benefitting organizations to connect our neighbors in need with nutritious food and vital resources."
The event offers multiple participation options to accommodate diverse community members. Individuals may join as individuals, families, groups, or teams for the family-friendly 5K that welcomes people of all ages and abilities. The festivities include music, food vendors, warm-ups, and a dedicated Kids Zone with bounce houses, slides, interactive characters, and age-appropriate learning opportunities. The event will proceed rain or shine.
For those unable to attend in person, the virtual Hunger Walk Run allows participation anywhere, anytime. Participants can walk in their neighborhoods, use treadmills, or even spin on bikes while supporting the cause. The event page at https://www.acfb.org features outdoor trails that participants may visit, though any physical activity counts toward supporting hunger relief.
Registration is currently open through 12 pm on Friday, March 13, with online rates set at $30 for walkers, $40 for runners, $25 for virtual participants who pick up their shirts, and $32 for virtual participants who wish to have their shirts mailed. Walk-up registration will be available for an additional $5 per entry type. Participants are encouraged to maintain event momentum by posting photos, tagging the Food Bank on social media using @ACFB, and using the hashtag #HWR2026 to share why they support the cause.
The Atlanta Community Food Bank serves as the Southeast's largest food bank, working with more than 700 nonprofit partners throughout the year to connect thousands of people with healthy and nutritious food. In 2023, the organization distributed its one billionth meal, demonstrating the significant impact of sustained community support. The Hunger Walk Run represents a crucial fundraising opportunity that enables the continuation of this essential work during a period of unprecedented need.
