A Bay Area dog rescue organization has received a critical infrastructure donation that will improve sanitation and reduce operational costs at its new facility. Stewart Heating, Plumbing & Air Conditioning, a Lafayette-based contractor, donated and installed a 40-gallon electric water heater at Hugs for Harry Dog Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that saves and rehabilitates vulnerable dogs throughout the region.
The water heater will supply hot water to a new in-house laundry facility and a dog washing station, both essential for maintaining cleanliness and proper grooming standards for the animals. According to the rescue, these additions are expected to lower ongoing operational costs while strengthening the overall health and wellbeing of the dogs housed at the facility.
Hugs for Harry relocated to a new Lafayette location in January 2026, which offered additional space to accommodate growing rescue efforts but also required necessary infrastructure improvements. Access to hot water and adequate plumbing were among the most pressing needs, yet financial limitations made progress difficult before Stewart Heating, Plumbing & Air Conditioning stepped forward.
"Our team is honored to support an organization doing such meaningful work in the community," said a representative from Stewart Heating, Plumbing & Air Conditioning. "Providing this water heater and installation is a small way we can contribute to the comfort and care of these animals and the people who dedicate their time to helping them."
Hugs for Harry rescues dogs from abandonment, medical neglect, and overcrowded shelters where animals face the risk of euthanasia. The organization depends on community donations and volunteer involvement to sustain its mission. "Stewart Heating, Plumbing & Air's generous contribution made a project possible that once felt out of reach," said a board member of Hugs for Harry Dog Rescue. "This donation allows us to focus more of our resources on what matters most—providing daily care, medical treatment, and love to every dog that comes through our doors."
The donation highlights how in-kind contributions can directly impact nonprofit operations. By covering a capital expense that might otherwise strain a small rescue's budget, the contractor has enabled Hugs for Harry to redirect funds toward medical treatments, food, and other direct care needs. For the broader community, this partnership demonstrates how local businesses can support animal welfare efforts in tangible ways.
Stewart Heating, Plumbing & Air Conditioning continues to support local organizations that provide tangible benefits to communities across the region.
