Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association will host a free online workshop titled "Love Your Liver" for Black History Month on February 5 at 7 PM ET. The event is designed to address significant disparities in liver cancer outcomes affecting Black and African American communities, who experience earlier onset, higher mortality rates, and delayed diagnoses compared to other groups.
The workshop will feature Dr. Rebecca Jones, Ph.D., a Faculty Associate at the Institute for Health Promotion Research at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Jones will lead an interactive discussion focused on helping participants recognize symptoms, understand risk factors, and navigate healthcare systems effectively. Primary liver cancer rates are rising steadily in the United States, making this educational initiative particularly timely and critical for communities bearing a disproportionate burden of the disease.
This event provides practical tools for advocacy, screening, lifestyle modifications, and accessing medical support before symptoms become severe. It is open to patients, caregivers, medical professionals, and community leaders who wish to learn more about how liver cancer specifically impacts Black populations and what protective measures can be taken. Participants will receive free educational resources and have the opportunity to submit questions during the live session. Registration is required for the free workshop, which aligns with Blue Faery's mission to prevent, treat, and cure primary liver cancer through research, education, and advocacy.
The organization supports the liver cancer community through various programs and resources. For comprehensive patient education, Blue Faery provides free Patient Resource Guides for Liver Cancer. Additional initiatives include the HCC Lunch & Learn, The Truth About Liver Cancer, and You and Liver Cancer programs. The organization also hosts an online Liver Cancer Community for patients and caregivers seeking support and information.
