BOXABL Secures Texas Approval to Deploy Casita Studio as State Eases ADU Restrictions

BOXABL, a developer of factory-built modular housing solutions, announced it has received regulatory approval to sell and deploy its Casita Studio across Texas, marking a significant expansion into one of the fastest-growing residential housing markets in North America. The approval comes as Texas enacts legislation aimed at reducing local restrictions on accessory dwelling units (ADUs), creating a more favorable environment for housing expansion.

The company said the milestone strengthens its growth strategy as it prepares for its anticipated merger with FG Merger II Corp. and planned public listing, while opening access to a state that has emerged as a major market for ADU development. The move aligns with broader trends in housing affordability and supply, as Texas faces increasing demand for cost-effective housing solutions.

BOXABL's flagship product, the Casita, is a 361-square-foot studio unit with a full kitchen, bathroom, and utilities. The unit unfolds on-site in less than an hour and is manufactured inside BOXABL’s facilities. The company also has announced the Baby Box, a smaller 120-square-foot unit built to RV code, intended for simpler, no-foundation setups. Additionally, BOXABL is developing stackable and connectable box models that can be combined to form townhomes, multifamily units, or larger single-family homes.

The Texas approval allows BOXABL to tap into a market where ADUs are increasingly seen as a solution to housing shortages. By reducing local regulatory hurdles, the state legislation enables faster deployment of units like the Casita, which can be used as rental income properties, guest houses, or primary residences. This could help alleviate pressure on housing supply in urban and suburban areas across Texas.

For BOXABL, the Texas entry is a key step before its merger with FG Merger II Corp., a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) formed for the purpose of effecting a merger or business combination. The merger is expected to provide BOXABL with additional capital to scale production and expand into other states. The company’s modular approach aims to deliver affordable, high-quality homes at unprecedented speed, addressing housing challenges for individuals and communities.

The announcement comes as the housing industry grapples with rising costs and supply chain constraints. Factory-built modular homes offer a faster, more cost-effective alternative to traditional construction. BOXABL's Casita, which can be deployed in under an hour, represents a shift toward rapid housing solutions that could reshape how homes are built and delivered.
