Comcast has announced a groundbreaking partnership with the legendary Mexican rock band EL TRI to provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for their upcoming Music in the Park concert on June 22 at Plaza de Cesar Chavez in San Jose. This initiative marks the first time EL TRI, renowned for their Spanish lyrics, will perform with sign language interpreters, significantly enhancing accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing fans.
The inclusion of ASL interpreters from Pro Bono ASL, an organization noted for its work with artists like Bad Bunny, Juanes, and Elvis Crespo, highlights Comcast's commitment to serving the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. Pro Bono ASL specializes in bringing immigrant, first-generation, queer, multilingual, and multicultural interpreters to concerts and festivals across the United States, ensuring a diverse and inclusive experience for all attendees.
Adding to the event's entertainment, Pro Bono ASL interpreters will also translate announcements during the traditional Lucha Libre matches scheduled to take place before the concert. These matches will feature local wrestlers such as "El Gladiador del aire," "El Viento," and "Rey de las pesadillas" El Cucuy, promising an engaging and accessible experience for all attendees.
Comcast representatives will be present to discuss the company's broader plans to support the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community, emphasizing their ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity in entertainment. This endeavor aligns with Comcast's mission to connect people to moments that matter, leveraging their extensive media and technology resources to foster a more inclusive society.
The event is set to be a historic moment for music and accessibility, offering a unique opportunity to capture and celebrate the fusion of rock music and sign language interpretation. Fans will not only enjoy the iconic music of EL TRI but will also witness a concert that prioritizes accessibility and inclusivity, setting a precedent for future events.
The concert will take place at Plaza de Cesar Chavez, located at 1 Paseo de San Antonio, San Jose, CA 95113. Doors will open at 4:00 PM PT, with the concert starting at 8:00 PM PT. Lucha Libre matches will occur throughout the event, providing continuous entertainment for attendees.
This collaboration between Comcast and EL TRI signifies a pivotal step towards greater inclusivity in the entertainment industry, ensuring that the joy of live music is accessible to all fans, regardless of their hearing abilities. By prioritizing accessibility, Comcast and EL TRI are paving the way for a more inclusive future in live entertainment.
