Cozaint Corporation's new U.S. patent protects a multi-tiered storage architecture that lets security operators retrieve archived LTO surveillance video directly through their existing video management software, eliminating separate archive workflows and potentially reducing long-term storage costs.
Cozaint's MARCIA Patent Bridges Long-Term Video Storage and Real-Time VMS Access

Cozaint Corporation has secured U.S. Patent No. 12,755,902, titled "Video Surveillance Playback System with Multi-Tiered Storage," covering the core architecture of its MARCIA Intelligent Video Lifecycle Management (IVLM) platform. The patent, announced on October 7, 2026, validates a technology that allows an operator's normal Video Management Software (VMS) playback request to automatically retrieve archived surveillance video from long-term Linear Tape-Open (LTO) storage, restore it to rapidly accessible storage, and make it available again through the operator's existing VMS timeline. No separate archive-retrieval process is required.

This development matters because organizations have long faced a difficult tradeoff between affordable long-term video retention and practical accessibility. Conventional video archive solutions often force operators to leave their familiar VMS environment, manually locate archived media, or initiate separate restoration procedures before historical video can be reviewed. MARCIA was engineered to remove that operational divide while preserving the economics of long-term LTO retention. The patented architecture manages surveillance video across multiple storage tiers, combining rapidly accessible storage with economical long-term LTO media. Middleware between the VMS and the storage infrastructure maintains the relationship between recorded video, time, and physical storage location so historical video can be recovered when requested through the VMS workflow.

The patent's significance extends beyond one company's product line. The architecture is not tied to any single VMS platform; MARCIA is designed as a VMS-independent lifecycle management layer. Currently, it supports Milestone XProtect, Hanwha WAVE, Digital Watchdog Spectrum IPVMS, Network Optix Nx Witness, PIKO VMS, and BOBBYvms, with additional platforms continually being added. When an operator requests historical video through the normal VMS timeline, MARCIA determines where the requested camera and time-period recordings reside. If the video has migrated to LTO, MARCIA recalls the required recordings and restores them into the storage structure expected by the VMS. The VMS then performs normal playback without requiring the operator to launch a separate archive application, manually identify tape media, or initiate a separate restoration job.

Industry support for the approach was voiced by Takuma Yano, General Manager of FUJIFILM North America Corp., Data Storage Solutions division. "For decades, LTO technology has provided organizations with a trusted foundation for long-term preservation," Yano said. "Innovation such as Cozaint's patented architecture demonstrates how enterprise software can unlock new value from proven storage technologies by making long-term archived content more accessible within day-to-day operational environments."

As enterprise surveillance deployments grow into petabyte-scale environments, organizations are increasingly seeking solutions that reduce storage costs while extending retention periods to satisfy regulatory, operational, investigative, legal, and business intelligence requirements. Cozaint's patented architecture addresses these objectives by leveraging the economics, durability, and energy efficiency of LTO technology without forcing organizations to abandon the VMS workflows already used by security operators. The company believes this patented technology represents a foundational advancement in the emerging discipline of Intelligent Video Lifecycle Management, an architectural approach focused on preserving enterprise visual continuity while making long-term trusted visual evidence economically practical and operationally accessible.

"This patent represents years of engineering focused on solving one of the surveillance industry's longest-standing challenges," said Nauzad Sadry, Chief Technology Officer of Cozaint Corporation. "Organizations should never have to choose between retaining valuable visual evidence and maintaining operational simplicity. MARCIA bridges that gap by making long-term video preservation a seamless extension of the existing VMS experience at the most affordable storage costs."
