Eco Expo Asia 2025, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd with co-organization by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, will convene from October 28 to 31 at AsiaWorld-Expo. This 20th edition, themed Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality, arrives at a critical juncture as China commits to reducing economy-wide net greenhouse gas emissions by 7-10% from peak levels by 2035, creating substantial demand for environmental products and technologies.
The expo's significance extends beyond regional boundaries, featuring over 300 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions with strong participation from government suppliers from the Chinese Mainland, ASEAN nations, and Belt and Road countries. HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Jenny Koo emphasized that the event serves as a business platform for ESG and sustainable solutions, showcasing latest products and technologies in new energy, green living, and environmental protection. The timing aligns with Hong Kong's new green policy directions highlighted in the Chief Executive's 2025 Policy Address, including fostering green and low-carbon living environments and expediting green technology applications.
Three key thematic areas will dominate the exhibition: Circular Economy and Waste Management, Green & Smart Mobility, and ESG-related Services. In the circular economy sector, Hong Kong exhibitor Green AI Technology Limited will display a smart sorting bin powered by machine vision and AI algorithms, while China Everbright Environment Group Limited returns with waste-to-energy solutions that transform waste into resources. The green mobility section features CUHK-incubated start-up Luquos Energy Limited showcasing the world's first commercialized sulfur-based flow battery energy storage system at nearly half the cost of lithium batteries.
The expo's international dimension is strengthened by first-time group participations from Korea and Italy, alongside returning pavilions from Norway, the Netherlands, and Canada. The ANSO Environmental Technology Industry Alliance, led by the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions, makes its debut with 11 mainland enterprises showcasing water resources and atmospheric environment technologies. Local representation includes a joint government pavilion featuring 11 bureaus and departments, while the Environmental Campaign Committee debuts with 22 local start-ups presenting green innovations.
The highlight Eco Asia Conference will gather government representatives from the Chinese Mainland and Belt and Road countries alongside global industry leaders to share latest policies and insights. Conference sessions will focus on circular economy developments, including the launch of the Hong Kong Circular Built Environment Guidebook, and themes like Building a Sustainable Future: Gearing Towards a Net-Zero Built Environment and Green & Smart Mobility - Envisioning the Future of Transportation. Additional events include the 6th Hydrogen Economy Forum featuring representatives from Towngas and experts from the Chinese Mainland and overseas, and the Experience Sharing Forum on Promoting Environmental Business in Overseas Markets inviting Belt and Road country representatives.
To encourage public engagement, the final day on October 31 will be designated as Public Day with complimentary admission, featuring green talks, workshops including a Beeswax Wrap Workshop and Board Game Workshop, and a Green Mart for sustainable shopping. The expo leverages digital connectivity through the Click2Match virtual business matching platform operating from October 21 to November 7, facilitating continued engagement beyond the physical event.
