MIAMI, FL — For 25 years, ElParacaidista.com has been a lifeline for Hispanic immigrants in the United States, providing essential guidance on everything from immigration procedures to starting a business. Founded in 2001 by Venezuelan-American journalist Aira Guevara, the monthly guide and online resource center has evolved from an 8-page mini-newspaper in Miami to a comprehensive digital platform serving millions. As the U.S. Hispanic population now exceeds 68 million, the need for reliable, acculturation-focused information has never been greater.
What began as a print publication that sold out monthly and earned a “Best of Miami 2002” award from the Miami New Times, transitioned fully online in 2012. Over the years, it has addressed urgent topics such as deportation prevention, healthcare access for the uninsured, business licensing, and professional credential validation. “Celebrating this 25th anniversary is a tremendous achievement, and we are happy to offer—with even greater strength—this true compass for the Latino immigrant,” says Guevara. “Here, taking the wrong path can cost a lot of money and can even jeopardize the possibility of living and working in this country.”
The platform’s impact is underscored by its statistics: over 2.5 million users served in the U.S., Latin America, and Europe, with more than 5 million pages viewed. The content, rigorously researched by a team of journalists, covers topics like credit reports, home-based businesses, and vetting professionals. “We receive many calls from all over the United States that constantly inspire us to keep researching, updating, and publishing vital information,” Guevara notes, citing cases of a plumber seeking market rates, a couple pursuing merit-based immigration, and an engineer needing credential validation.
To mark its 25th anniversary, ElParacaidista.com has launched a new digital platform developed in partnership with ECP Communications Corp and Blank. “In an environment where trust is built in seconds, a well-designed digital platform becomes a fundamental tool,” explains Jorge Gandara, CTO of Blank. Elizabeth Cotto-Poueriet, CEO of ECP Communications Corp, adds, “We believe that digital transformation is not just about technology, but about creating solutions that connect people with the services they need.” The new site aims to deliver information more quickly and efficiently to the immigrant community.
The importance of this resource extends beyond immediate problem-solving. Guevara emphasizes that the guide promotes “positive acculturation,” helping immigrants leverage their skills, work experience, and cultural values while navigating the American system. “The idea is for their integration to be a mutually beneficial process for them and for the country welcoming them,” she says. “The vast majority do not come to take; they come to give—and to give a great deal—to enrich this great nation as it celebrates its 250th anniversary.”
For 16 years, ElParacaidista has also offered Foreign Title Revalidation seminars and guides, a crucial service for professionals educated abroad. As the U.S. continues to welcome immigrants, this 25-year milestone underscores the sustained need for accessible, trustworthy information that helps newcomers and long-term residents alike build secure, successful lives in America.
