FingerMotion to Acquire 9.9 MW Alberta Power Generation and Compute Site

FingerMotion Inc. (NASDAQ: FNGR) announced it has entered into a binding memorandum of understanding to acquire land rights and permitting for a 9.9 megawatt behind-the-meter power generation and compute site in the County of Newell, Alberta, approximately 185 kilometers southeast of Calgary. The site represents the first acquisition in the company’s planned Brooks Campus Zone, where FingerMotion intends to assemble separately owned and permitted 9.9 MW sites as demand for powered land develops.

Adjacent to an operating third-party natural gas facility, the site is designed to generate and consume power behind the meter without requiring a grid interconnection request, transmission service arrangement or position in an interconnection queue. This approach could significantly reduce the time and regulatory hurdles typically associated with grid-connected power projects, providing a competitive advantage in the rapidly growing market for data centers and compute-intensive operations.

FingerMotion is targeting a fully permitted site within 120 days of release to work and plans to advance energization only against contracted demand backed by a take-or-pay agreement and funded customer deposit. This disciplined strategy ensures that capital is deployed only when there is confirmed demand, mitigating financial risk and aligning with the company’s focus on sustainable growth.

The announcement signals a strategic pivot for FingerMotion, a technology company with a core competency in mobile payment and recharge platform solutions in China. As the user base of its primary business continues to grow, the company is developing additional value-added technologies to market to its users. The vision of the Company is to rapidly grow the user base through organic means and have this growth develop into an ecosystem of users with high engagement rates utilizing its innovative applications. Developing a highly engaged ecosystem of users would strategically position the Company to onboard larger customer bases. FingerMotion eventually hopes to serve over 1 billion users in the China market and eventually expand the model to other regional markets.

This acquisition could have significant implications for FingerMotion’s investors and the broader technology sector. By securing powered land with behind-the-meter generation, FingerMotion is positioning itself to potentially serve the increasing demand for compute infrastructure, which is critical for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other data-intensive applications. The move also diversifies the company’s operations beyond its traditional mobile payment and recharge business in China, potentially opening new revenue streams in North America.
