Fitzroy Minerals Inc. has reported substantial exploration progress at its Buen Retiro and Caballos copper projects in northern Chile, with significant extensions to known mineralization zones and accelerated drilling programs that could have important implications for global copper supply. The developments come as copper demand continues to grow for renewable energy infrastructure and electrification technologies worldwide.
At the Buen Retiro project, recent diamond drilling has extended the zone of continuous mineralization in the Southwest Area to 1.4 kilometers, representing a 40% increase from the previously reported 985 meters. Copper mineralization remains open along strike, with further drilling planned for 2026. The most notable intersection came from hole BRT-DDH-028, which returned 133 meters at 0.46% copper in oxides from the top of bedrock, including higher-grade intervals of 40 meters at 0.53% copper and 35 meters at 0.77% copper.
The company is investigating potential fast-track production at Buen Retiro, citing significant infrastructure advantages including proximity to the Pan-American highway, high voltage transmission lines, the sea approximately 35 kilometers away, and the mining hub of Copiapó about 60 kilometers distant. Fitzroy aims to complete a maiden mineral resource estimate and Preliminary Economic Assessment on a heap leach project in 2026. Environmental baseline monitoring for permitting has already commenced.
Reverse-circulation drilling at Buen Retiro has completed 1,050 meters in four holes, with preliminary logging identifying intrusive rocks bearing chalcopyrite and pyrite mineralization several kilometers east of the main Southwest Area. Initial assay results from this regional program are expected in October 2025. Additional information about the project can be found at https://www.fitzroyminerals.com.
At the Caballos project, Fitzroy is expanding its drilling program to three rigs following several technical breakthroughs. The company plans to complete at least 3,000 meters of diamond drilling in 2025, comprising approximately 2,000 meters at the Chincolco Prospect and 1,000 meters at the Mule Hill Prospect. Recent age-dating results have identified Caballos as a long-lived hydrothermal system spanning from 44 to 25 million years ago, matching the ages of Chile's prolific Eocene-Oligocene copper belts that host world-class deposits including Chuquicamata, Escondida, Quebrada Blanca, and Collahuasi.
Merlin Marr-Johnson, President and CEO of Fitzroy Minerals, stated that the extension of Buen Retiro's strike length demonstrates both scale and continuity, while regional drilling shows evidence of copper mineralization across a broader footprint. At Caballos, the company has acquired 291 hectares of land in the Chincolco Valley, providing important access rights, while mapping has identified expansion potential to the east under post-mineral cover.
The exploration advances at both projects are significant given Chile's position as the world's largest copper producer and the critical role copper plays in global energy transition. Successful development of these projects could contribute to meeting growing copper demand driven by electrification, renewable energy infrastructure, and technological applications. The company's systematic approach to exploration, including rigorous quality assurance and quality control procedures, supports the reliability of reported results as drilling continues through 2025.
