FleetCollect, a trucking compliance software platform serving owner-operators and small fleets across the United States, has introduced an AI connector that allows users to ask questions about their fleet's IFTA fuel tax, DOT compliance, and carrier data in plain language. The connector, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for securely connecting AI assistants to external data and tools, enables truckers to interact with their compliance records through popular AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT.
For many small carriers, the answers to everyday operating questions are already contained in their records, spread across quarterly IFTA reports, driver files, dispatch logs, and federal databases. Traditionally, accessing this information required navigating through specific screens and manually reading data. The FleetCollect connector simplifies this process: after a one-time connection between their FleetCollect account and an AI assistant, operators can simply ask questions and receive direct, plain-language answers derived from their own data.
Examples of queries the connector can handle include: "What were my IFTA miles by state for the last quarter?", "Which of my drivers have documents expiring in the next 30 days?", "How many dispatch loads have I run and what's my total revenue?", and "What's my drug-testing status?" The connector also provides live FMCSA carrier vetting, allowing users to check any motor carrier by USDOT or MC number using real-time Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration data. This feature returns operating authority, insurance, and safety information, enabling brokers and dispatchers to verify partners without leaving the conversation.
Security and privacy are central to the design. All 14 tools in the connector are read-only, meaning the AI can look up and summarize information but cannot alter, delete, or place orders. Driver personally identifiable information, such as emails, phone numbers, and license numbers, is filtered out and never returned. Each request is scoped to the authenticated account, ensuring that operators only access their own data. The connector employs OAuth 2.1 with Dynamic Client Registration and PKCE, modern authentication standards, so users authorize the connection with their existing FleetCollect login and can revoke it at any time.
Herman Armstrong, founder of FleetCollect, emphasized the practical benefit: "Owner-operators didn't get into trucking to click through dashboards. We built this so a driver can just ask — 'what do I owe in IFTA,' 'which of my guys is about to expire,' 'is this carrier legit' — and get a straight answer from their own numbers. We made it read-only and privacy-filtered on purpose: it answers questions, it doesn't touch your data."
The connector is available to customers with an active FleetCollect subscription and is being submitted to the Claude connector directory and the ChatGPT app directory. FleetCollect's platform includes IFTA fuel tax tracking, DOT Driver Qualification File management under 49 CFR Part 391, and a nationwide DOT drug and alcohol testing program.
