Rainforest Partnership is set to launch a groundbreaking global livestream event titled 'Planet Walkers: A Global Livestream and Call to Breathe With the Forest' on June 22, coinciding with World Rainforest Day. This initiative seeks to engage millions of participants around the globe in a unified walk, either physically in their local environments or virtually, to underscore the vital importance of rainforests to the planet's health and future.
The event will feature live and pre-recorded segments from some of the world's most biodiverse regions, including the Amazon, Kenya, Southeast Asia, and more. Indigenous leaders, scientists, and cultural storytellers will guide viewers through these segments, offering a rich, multisensory experience that combines stunning visuals, natural sounds, and compelling narratives. The livestream aims to foster a deep connection between participants and the world's rainforests, emphasizing their role in climate regulation, biodiversity conservation, and supporting over a billion people with essential resources.
Accessible worldwide via www.worldrainforestday.org, the event encourages participation through various means, including walking outdoors, sharing reflections on social media, or simply spending time in nature. The campaign also seeks to mobilize one million participants, generate over 100 million digital impressions, and raise funds for rainforest protection through donations and acre pledges.
Niyanta Spelman, CEO of Rainforest Partnership, highlights the event's significance, stating, 'When we walk with the forest, we walk for our future. Every step is a statement.' This initiative represents a pivotal moment in transforming World Rainforest Day from a symbolic observance into a global demonstration of ecological solidarity, with long-term goals of fostering community activation and corporate engagement in rainforest conservation.
Rainforest Partnership, in collaboration with ZoeTerra and other partners, is spearheading this campaign to amplify the message of rainforest conservation. The organization's efforts are rooted in working directly with Indigenous and local communities in the Amazon to protect these critical ecosystems, while also engaging a global audience in the cause. World Rainforest Day serves as a reminder of the indispensable role rainforests play in sustaining life on Earth, from regulating rainfall to harboring unparalleled biodiversity.
