Goodway Cares, the 501(c)(3) charity arm of Goodway Group, has announced a total donation of $27,285 to three local Washington D.C. charities. This gesture follows Goodway Group’s annual all-company summit, during which employees participated in the Circle of Gratitude—a special event aimed at fostering community and support for local organizations.
The three beneficiary organizations, chosen through employee votes, are Hero Dogs, An Open Book Foundation, and Together We Bake. The donations amount to $10,095 for Hero Dogs, $9,095 for An Open Book Foundation, and $8,095 for Together We Bake. The additional $95 in each donation serves as a tribute to Goodway Group’s 95-year history.
Hero Dogs is a Maryland-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for veterans and first-responders with disabilities by providing them with specially trained assistance dogs. The organization offers customized training and lifetime support to enhance the services of community organizations. Nikki Charles, executive director of Hero Dogs, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “We’re thrilled to partner with Goodway Cares. With their support, we’re able to give more veterans and first-responders the service dogs they need.”
An Open Book Foundation, founded in 2010, aims to connect authors with students in under-resourced schools. By bringing authors into schools and providing free books, the foundation fosters a love of reading and learning. Since its inception, the foundation has hosted numerous events and donated thousands of books to students and libraries, making a significant impact on educational access and literacy.
Together We Bake focuses on empowering women facing barriers to employment by providing comprehensive workforce training and personal development programs. These initiatives help participants gain self-confidence, transferable skills, and hands-on experience, paving the way for sustainable employment and self-sufficiency.
Goodway Cares’ donation underscores the company's commitment to supporting local communities through various philanthropic endeavors. The organization, funded through Goodway Group employee contributions and volunteer efforts, provides strategic, consultative, media activation, and financial support to a range of non-profits. This recent donation highlights the positive impact businesses can have on their communities by leveraging their resources and employee engagement for social good.
