Board-certified radiologist Hamid Alam MD has announced the Dr. Hamid Alam Scholarship for Future Doctors, a one-time $1,000 award open to undergraduate students across the United States who intend to become physicians or medical professionals. The scholarship, founded in 2026, is designed to support learners early in their path toward medicine, according to the announcement.
Applications are being accepted from students in any U.S. city or state. Eligible applicants must be undergraduate students at the time of application, plan to pursue a career as a physician or medical professional, be enrolled in or preparing for a college or university program, demonstrate a strong interest in healthcare, medicine, or patient care, and show academic commitment, personal responsibility, and a desire to help others.
The scholarship uses a written essay for selection. Applicants must respond to the prompt: “What does becoming a doctor mean to you, and how do you hope your future career will improve the lives of others?” Essays should describe why the applicant wants to pursue medicine, which experiences or values have shaped that goal, and what kind of doctor the applicant hopes to become. Reviewers look for clear purpose, personal reflection, compassion, and a realistic vision for contributing to healthcare and the community. Personal experience and vision carry more weight than a list of academic achievements.
The application deadline is May 15, 2027, and the winner will be announced June 15, 2027. After the deadline, eligible applications enter an essay-based selection process. Reviewers consider the strength of each response, commitment to medicine, personal values, and potential to make a positive contribution to healthcare. The $1,000 award supports eligible education-related expenses.
Hamid Alam MD is a board-certified physician in Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology. His career includes clinical practice, service as a director of Neuroradiology, mentorship of radiology residents, and a faculty role as Assistant Professor of Clinical Imaging. Through this scholarship, Dr. Hamid Alam extends that commitment to medical education by recognizing a student who shows early dedication to patient care.
“Medicine depends on capable, compassionate people entering the profession,” says Hamid Alam MD. “This scholarship recognizes an undergraduate student who is thinking seriously about the responsibilities of being a doctor.”
The announcement matters because financial support at the undergraduate stage can help students stay focused on their academic and professional goals, Dr. Hamid Alam noted. Educators, advisors, and family members are encouraged to share the scholarship with students preparing for medical careers. Applicants should review the criteria, write and proofread the essay, and email the completed application to apply@drhamidalamscholarship.com.
