Hodo, a leading artisan tofu and plant-based food company, is broadening its retail footprint by introducing its product line to three major grocery chains, responding to a significant surge in consumer demand for nutritious, minimally processed protein options.
The expansion comes on the heels of an 8% sales growth in the tofu category between 2021 and 2023, according to data from GFI/SPINS. Hodo Founder Minh Tsai noted that younger generations are increasingly embracing tofu as a versatile protein source, driving retailers to expand their offerings.
The company will introduce a diverse range of products across these new retail partners, including Extra Firm Tofu, Organic Miso Tofu, Organic Indian Spiced Tofu, Thai Curry Nuggets, and Vegan All-Day Egg Scramble. Retail prices for Hodo products will range from $4.99 to $7.99.
Hodo's product line emphasizes nutritional value, featuring organic, non-GMO soybeans that provide a complete plant protein containing all nine essential amino acids. The company has also innovated with new product offerings like Saucy Tofu Kits, targeting health-conscious and time-constrained consumers.
This strategic expansion builds upon Hodo's existing presence in national and regional retailers like Whole Foods, Albertsons Safeway, HEB, and Wegmans. The move signals a broader trend toward plant-based protein alternatives in the American grocery market, reflecting changing consumer preferences around nutrition, sustainability, and dietary choices.
