Hong Kong Lighting and Eco Expos Draw 62,000 Buyers, Survey Shows Industry Optimism

The 28th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) and the 11th Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo, both organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), together with the 21st Eco Expo Asia, jointly organised by the HKTDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, concluded successfully after attracting some 62,000 buyers from 152 countries and regions, according to NEWMEDIAWIRE.

Buyers from outside Hong Kong mainly came from the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, India, Korea, the US, as well as ASEAN countries including Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. The strong turnout underscores Hong Kong's role as an international trade platform and the appeal of HKTDC exhibitions, said HKTDC Associate Executive Director Silas Chu. The importance of the events extends beyond attendance figures: they provide a barometer for the lighting and green technology industries and a marketplace where cross-border deals are initiated.

An independent survey of more than 740 exhibitors and buyers conducted during the twin lighting fairs found that 63% of respondents expect sales to increase over the next two years, while 34% anticipate sales will remain unchanged. The Chinese Mainland (85%), the Middle East (84%) and ASEAN (84%) were identified as the most promising markets. Respondents cited artificial intelligence (54%), technological advancement (44%) and smart city development (43%) as the top three driving factors of industry growth, and 86% viewed the market potential of smart lighting over the next two years as promising or very promising.

The lighting fairs, held under the theme "Beyond Illumination," showcased smart connectivity, healthy living and LED display technologies. The Hall of Connected Lighting brought together some 70 leading local and international brands. Among them, Signify teamed up with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team to present a racing simulator experience. Steve Jiang, Sales Leader of OEM Greater China at Signify, said the fair's international positioning has made it indispensable to expanding the company's global presence. The new LED Display Solution zone debuted this year, with exhibitor Ledman Hong Kong presenting its LEDHUB Smart Conference Solution and its QS Series IceScreen LED Display, which was used at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

The Outdoor and Tech Light Expo continued to showcase lighting applications for smart cities, industrial environments and professional settings through three thematic zones, and introduced photovoltaic and energy storage solutions. Chinese Mainland exhibitor Zhejiang Fonda Technology Co Ltd, a leading supplier of smart lighting controllers, said sales generated from the four-day expo will exceed US$1 million.

Eco Expo Asia raised its international profile with over 340 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions and 18 pavilions, including the debut of the ASEAN Pavilion and the Qinghai Pavilion. The Expo introduced the GoGlobal Connect Zone for the first time, providing Chinese Mainland green enterprises with complimentary matching services to connect with Hong Kong professional services for overseas expansion. More than 30 forums and thematic sessions featured over 80 government officials, industry leaders and experts, drawing more than 4,400 visits.

The three exhibitions adopted the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model, combining physical and online participation, with the online component of Eco Expo Asia remaining open until 5 November and the online exhibitions for the two lighting fairs running until 6 November. Exhibitors and buyers can continue business discussions through the Click2Match smart business matching platform. Details of the events are available on the fair websites: https://www.hktdc.com/event/hklightingfairae/en, https://www.hktdc.com/event/hkotlexpo/en and https://www.hktdc.com/event/ecoexpoasia/en.

For the reader and the wider industry, the survey results and the scale of international participation signal that demand for smart lighting and green technologies is expected to remain robust, with the Chinese Mainland, the Middle East and ASEAN identified as key growth markets. The debut of the ASEAN Pavilion and the GoGlobal Connect Zone also points to deeper cross-regional cooperation in green innovation and technology.
