The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has expressed strong support for the 2025 Policy Address delivered by Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee, which outlines comprehensive initiatives to strengthen Hong Kong's position as a global trade and economic hub. The policy measures include deepening international exchange and cooperation while supporting mainland enterprises in overseas expansion through Hong Kong's platform.
HKTDC Chairman Prof Frederick Ma emphasized that the diverse policy measures demonstrate the government's commitment to showcasing Hong Kong as a superconnector, super value-adder, and high value-added supply chain service center. Key initiatives include establishing the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global, creating the Economic and Trade Express collaboration between Economic and Trade Offices and overseas offices of InvestHK and HKTDC, and injecting $1.43 billion into the BUD Fund to support business development.
The creation of the GoGlobal Task Force, steered by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, will enable both Hong Kong enterprises and mainland companies to expand overseas through Hong Kong's platform, helping them access new markets and business opportunities. The policy also strengthens intellectual property financing at the Business of IP Asia Forum to promote Hong Kong as a regional IP trading center.
Amid significant changes in international trade and supply chains, the HKTDC will leverage its network of 51 offices in mainland China and overseas, along with extensive experience in business matching through conferences and exhibitions. The organization will actively support the Policy Address initiatives and collaborate with relevant departments to capitalize on Hong Kong's unique advantages as a connector linking Mainland China and the world.
The policy includes specific measures to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in embracing innovation and technology, particularly in digital transformation and supply chain solutions. The continued organization of the Hong Kong Shopping Festival under the HKTDC's E-Commerce Express will cover mainland and ASEAN e-commerce markets, while the Creativity • E-commerce - Beyond Limits program will promote trade digitalization to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
These comprehensive measures are designed to strengthen the competitiveness of Hong Kong enterprises and products in international markets, aligning with national development strategies and supporting sustainable economic growth through enhanced global connectivity and innovation-driven development.
