Huawei Unveils Mate XT 2 with World's First LogicFolding Tau Chip, Entering Mass Commercialization

By FisherVista
Huawei's new tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT 2, debuts the LogicFolding Tau chip and Kirin 9050 Pro, marking a milestone in chip commercialization and foldable technology.

On September 7, Huawei officially introduced the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN, the latest in its tri-fold lineup and the first smartphone to feature the LogicFolding Tau (τ) Chip, signaling the chip's entry into mass commercialization. This release underscores Huawei's continued leadership in foldable device innovation, pushing the boundaries of design and performance.

The new device boasts a wing-like tri-fold design that opens from both sides, offering an intuitive unfolding experience. Drawing on Chinese aesthetics, the back panel features a cloud pattern created using Brocade Cloud craftsmanship, available in Purple, White, and Black. The camera ring inherits the iconic Star Diamond Glow design, crafted from Yttrium Crystal and fired at 1,800°C, then polished through eight steps to form 33 star diamond facets for a gemstone-like luster.

Under the hood, the Mate XT 2 is powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, delivering a 42% improvement in overall performance compared to the previous generation. The LinxiCore CPU, combined with the Ultra-smooth HUAWEI Ark Engine, enables faster loading of large files and superior multitasking. The Maleoon GPU features doubled computing units and cache, enhancing rendering performance and supporting 50 MRPS hardware-level real-time ray tracing for immersive gaming. The HUAWEI Da Vinci Architecture NPU brings a leap in on-device AI computing power, supporting large models like the Pangu 30B-A2B MoE LLM for features such as AI album management with Celia.

The phone introduces the Xuanwu Ultra-Durable Tri-Fold Architecture, re-engineering hinge and screen technology for layered protection. It is the first tri-fold phone to support IP58/59 dust and water resistance. The cover screen uses Xuanwu Kunlun Glass with anti-glare technology, while the main screen incorporates a multi-layer composite ultra-tough structure, including UTG glass, aerospace-grade ultra-thin high-strength steel, and carbon fiber support. The Advanced Precision Hinge System 2.0 ensures even force distribution and reliable pressure resistance.

Huawei also unveiled the industry's first foldable Smart Shield Privacy Screen, achieving hardware-level privacy protection on a foldable device. This dual-pixel design maintains screen resolution when privacy mode is activated and provides intelligent reminders in sensitive areas like airports. Additionally, the Mate XT 2 includes ECG analysis software and has obtained NMPA Class II Medical Device Registration, allowing users to perform electrocardiogram measurements by holding the unfolded screen.

The camera system sees a comprehensive upgrade with True-to-Color Camera 3.0, which filters out infrared interference and improves color reproduction by 95%. It includes an ultra-HDR main camera, ultra-wide aperture periscope telephoto, and ultra-wide angle camera, supporting an ultra-high dynamic range of 18 EV for video. XMAGE SmartCapture recognizes scenes and offers AIGC real-time previews, while the tri-fold form enables Desk-calendar mode for easy selfies and group shots.

Running on HarmonyOS 7, the Mate XT 2 redefines large-screen interaction with Live-Multitask, supporting three parallel windows with adjustable sizes and independent volume. The device is deeply adapted to leading apps, driving innovation in the tri-fold ecosystem.

The HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN starts at RMB 19,999 and will be available with a stylus set, with sales beginning at 10:08 on September 12. This launch not only showcases Huawei's technological prowess but also sets new benchmarks for foldable smartphones, impacting the industry by accelerating the adoption of advanced chips and tri-fold form factors.
