For the entire month of October, South Florida residents will see a different Mega Bee. The family-owned Mega Bee Rescues & Pest Control is turning its signature yellow-and-black bee pink, dressing its technicians in pink uniforms and protective gear, and contributing 5% of its pest control and bee removal services to support the fight against breast cancer. The initiative, called Mega Bee Goes Pink, aims to bring awareness beyond social media and into homes, businesses, and communities throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
The company wanted the campaign to be something people would actually see, not just another pink graphic posted online during October. Technicians will perform their everyday routes wearing pink uniforms, gloves, and shoe covers. The company’s normally yellow branding will turn pink, and customers will receive “Your Service Went Pink Today” cards explaining how their service became part of the campaign and how they can get involved. That means an ordinary pest control visit or bee removal somewhere in South Florida becomes part of something bigger.
“We asked ourselves what going pink could look like if we actually brought it into what we do every day,” said Jean Navarro, CEO of Mega Bee Rescues & Pest Control. “We’re already going into homes, businesses and communities throughout South Florida. Instead of simply saying we support the cause, we wanted our customers to see it, our team to wear it and the work we perform throughout October to contribute to it.”
The cause is personal for the Mega Bee team. Breast cancer has touched the family of one of the company’s own team members, who had a loss due to breast cancer. It brought a cause recognized nationally every October much closer to home. “Behind the pink are real people and real families,” Navarro said. “For the fighters, the survivors, the families and those we’ve lost, we wanted to use our company and the work we’re already doing every day to show support in a real way.”
Rather than centering the campaign around a one-day promotion, Mega Bee decided to involve its entire operation throughout the month. The campaign will extend beyond customer properties. On Saturday, October 17, members of the Mega Bee team will participate in the Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale MORE THAN PINK Walk at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo Center. The company will document the month along the way — from technicians working in pink throughout South Florida to the team participating in the October 17 walk — and ultimately share the impact generated by the campaign with its customers, team, and community.
For Navarro, that is an important part of what Mega Bee Goes Pink represents. “We’re not a huge corporation,” Navarro said. “We’re a local, family-owned company. But we have a team, customers, trucks on the road and a presence in our community every day. We realized we could use all of that for something bigger than ourselves.”
Throughout October, South Floridians may spot Mega Bee technicians arriving at homes, businesses, and properties in pink instead of the company’s traditional yellow. That’s intentional. The company hopes the unexpected sight of pest control and bee removal technicians working in pink will start conversations — at homes, businesses, condominium communities, and online. And every time someone asks why the bee turned pink, Mega Bee gets another opportunity to talk about the reason behind it. Because for October, even the bees are going pink.
