Addressing sensory sensitivities and sensory overload is essential for creating truly inclusive environments. Sensory Friendly Solutions has introduced a new online course, Sensory Friendly 101, as part of their Training Membership program. This course aims to help a broad spectrum of professionals, including educators, retail staff, event planners, and human resource personnel, to better welcome and support a diverse range of customers and employees.
While most people are familiar with the five traditional senses—sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing—Sensory Friendly 101 covers all eight senses, adding vestibular (balance), proprioception (movement), and interoception (internal body signals) to the mix. Participants will learn to identify common sensory triggers in everyday settings and explore practical strategies for creating a more accommodating environment.
"Sensory overload is overwhelming, but the solutions can be simple," explained Christel Seeberger, Founder and CEO of Sensory Friendly Solutions. "This course equips people with the knowledge they need to foster a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone."
Understanding sensory sensitivities is especially important as many underlying disabilities heighten the likelihood of experiencing sensory overload. Sensory Friendly Solutions has identified at least 25 such conditions, including autism, hearing loss, PTSD, and traumatic brain injury. The Sensory Friendly 101 course is offered online and on-demand, making it accessible to a wide audience. It is part of a low-cost training membership, which further democratizes access to this valuable information.
By educating professionals on how to manage sensory sensitivities, Sensory Friendly Solutions aims to create more compassionate and sustainable environments. This initiative holds significant implications for various industries, from retail to education, and underscores the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in today's world.
