The National Football League (NFL) and the American Heart Association are partnering to motivate elementary school students to increase their physical activity through a special 15-minute fitness broadcast ahead of Super Bowl LIX. Scheduled for February 5 at 1 p.m. ET, the event will challenge students to incorporate movement into their daily routines while learning about the critical role of physical activity in maintaining health.
The broadcast, rooted in scientific research from the American Heart Association, will demonstrate how students can integrate physical exercises into games and activities. Additionally, the event will announce the 32 national grant winners of the NFL PLAY 60 Daily Movement Moment Challenge, with each winner receiving a $1,000 grant for physical activity equipment.
Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association, emphasized the organization's commitment to supporting youth health, stating that the partnership with the NFL provides innovative ways to inspire children to be active. The initiative addresses a critical health recommendation that children should engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily.
Physical activity offers numerous benefits beyond immediate health improvements. Research indicates that active children experience better sleep, enhanced cognitive function, and an overall improved quality of life. By establishing healthy habits early, the program aims to reduce risks of future health complications such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
NFL Senior Vice President of Social Responsibility Anna Isaacson highlighted the importance of developing healthy habits among youth, particularly as global attention focuses on the upcoming Super Bowl. The fitness break represents an engaging approach to motivating children to prioritize physical movement.
As part of the broader NFL PLAY 60 initiative, which has been active for 18 years, the program continues to support youth health and wellness across the United States. The broadcast is part of a comprehensive strategy to provide resources and inspiration for children to lead active, healthy lifestyles.
In conjunction with the broadcast, the NFL and American Heart Association will also host 1,000 New Orleans area students at Pan American Stadium, where they will participate in football-themed skills, drills, and learn Hands-Only CPR, further extending the program's educational impact.
