The Nordex Group has received a new order from Swedish renewable energy developer OX2 to supply and install 11 N175/6.X turbines for the Urleasca wind farm in Romania. The contract, which includes a 35-year Premium Service agreement, adds 77 MW of capacity to the company's growing portfolio in the country. This development highlights the continued expansion of wind energy in Eastern Europe and the strategic importance of Romania as a market for renewable technology.
The Urleasca wind farm will be situated near the village of Urleasca in Brăila County, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Bucharest. OX2 has already sold the ready-to-build project to Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider Scatec ASA, with OX2 managing the construction phase, which is scheduled to begin in Q3 2026 and reach commissioning in the second half of 2028. The project benefits from a long-term Contract-for-Difference (CfD) with the Romanian State, providing price stability and supporting the business case for the investment.
This order reinforces the Nordex Group's commitment to Romania, where it has contracted more than 500 MW of capacity in recent months. The company's latest N175/6.X turbine technology, designed for onshore wind in regions with limited space and grid constraints, will be deployed at the site, offering high efficiency and competitive electricity generation.
Slava Feklin, Country Manager for Romania and Ukraine at Nordex Group, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with OX2, noting that the country offers attractive opportunities for modern wind energy. "By combining OX2’s international project development expertise with our latest N175/6.X technology, all companies will deliver efficient and competitive renewable electricity to the Romanian market," he said. This partnership underscores the cross-border cooperation that is driving renewable energy growth across Europe.
The deal also reflects the broader trend of institutional investment in renewable infrastructure. Scatec ASA, the new owner, is a major player in renewable energy solutions, while OX2, owned by EQT, is present in five European markets and Australia, with a portfolio of about 33 GW. The involvement of such established firms signals confidence in Romania's energy transition and the stability of its regulatory framework.
The Urleasca wind farm is expected to contribute significantly to Romania's renewable energy targets, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting energy security. The CfD mechanism ensures that the electricity generated will be sold at a predictable price, mitigating market risks for investors. As Romania continues to modernize its energy grid, projects like this are vital for meeting climate goals and providing clean power to the region.
The Nordex Group, which has installed over 64 GW of wind capacity in more than 40 markets since 1985, continues to expand its global footprint. With manufacturing facilities in several countries and a strong service network, the company is well-positioned to support the growth of wind energy in emerging markets. This order not only strengthens its presence in Romania but also demonstrates the viability of onshore wind in Southeastern Europe.
