Overtake has announced the successful conclusion of the closed beta test (CBT) for Somnis: Rumble Rush, the first of its three blockchain games slated for release this year. The CBT, which ran from July 4th to 12th, featured a prize pool of $35,000 and saw all non-transferable CBT passes sold out within just nine hours. By choosing to sell the CBT passes as soul-bound tokens (SBTs), Overtake aimed to limit secondary trading and foster a genuine community of dedicated gamers. This strategic move appears to have paid off, as the company has successfully built a strong foundation for its future community through the Somnis CBT.
The Layerswap Bridge, essential for purchasing the CBT pass, experienced temporary overload due to the overwhelming interest and anticipation from global players. The CBT not only performed well in terms of pass sales but also saw enthusiastic participation in gameplay, achieving an 83% retention rate on the first day and 60% by the seventh day. These figures are significantly higher compared to typical games, which usually see retention rates between 20% and 30% on day one and 10% to 15% by day seven.
Participants from various countries demonstrated a high level of engagement during the CBT, with average playtimes exceeding 10 hours. Additionally, the community actively contributed by creating gameplay guides, winning strategies, and play videos, further enriching the gaming experience.
Overtake is set to launch the open beta test (OBT) for Somnis around mid-August. CEO Byoungjae Lee expressed the company's commitment to presenting an improved version of Somnis based on feedback received during the CBT. The company aims to maintain continuous communication with players and enhance the game's quality, setting high expectations for the upcoming launch.
The successful conclusion of Somnis's CBT, marked by notable engagement and retention rates, indicates a promising future for Overtake's blockchain gaming initiatives. As the industry continues to evolve, the ability to build and sustain a dedicated gamer community will be crucial for long-term success.
