After a six-year hiatus, Paddington Bear is back, and this time, he's returning to his roots in Peru. In the latest installment titled "Paddington in Peru," the world's most famous bear revisits his homeland to see his Aunt Lucy, now residing at the Home for Retired Bears. Accompanied by the Brown family, Paddington embarks on a thrilling adventure through the Amazon rainforest and the mountain peaks of Peru.
The film is a production of Studio Canal (United Kingdom) and is directed by Dougal Wilson. The narrative is based on Michael Bond's beloved English children's story "A Bear Called Paddington." The first two films in the series were monumental successes, grossing nearly $500 million collectively.
Director Dougal Wilson explained that while the first two Paddington films explored the bear's origins and his journey to his home in London, there are still many untold stories. This third film delves into Paddington's past as he and his friends travel to Peru to uncover missing pieces of his life story.
"Paddington in Peru" features a star-studded cast, including acclaimed actors Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas. The film promises to be an unforgettable family adventure and is set to be released in UK cinemas on November 8 and in the US on January 17, 2025.
One of the notable aspects of this film is its collaboration with PROMPERÚ's Film In Peru initiative, which aims to promote the country as a prime filming location. The initiative provided substantial assistance for the movie's production in Lima and Cusco. This support included coordinating with public and private entities to secure necessary permits for filming and drone usage. Additionally, guidance was given in processing 26 visas for the film crew.
In recent years, Film In Peru has been instrumental in supporting various international audiovisual productions. Some notable examples include "Dora and the Lost City of Gold," "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," "Street Food Latin America," "Down to Earth with Zac Efron," and "La Reina del Sur." This ongoing support underscores Peru's growing significance as a desirable location for international film projects.
The new film not only promises to be a delightful addition to the Paddington series but also serves to highlight the natural beauty and cultural richness of Peru. With its picturesque landscapes and vibrant heritage, the country is set to captivate audiences worldwide.
