Peapack-Gladstone Financial Corporation and Peapack Private Bank & Trust have appointed Alex Lurye as Senior Managing Director for their New York-based commercial banking team. This strategic hiring represents Peapack Private's continued investment in expanding its commercial banking presence in the competitive New York financial market.
Lurye brings more than 23 years of commercial lending experience across New York, Westchester, and Long Island to his new role. His extensive background includes significant leadership positions at major financial institutions, most recently serving as Senior Credit Officer of NYC Lending at Valley National Bank. During his tenure there, he oversaw multiple underwriting teams managing a substantial portfolio of $4 billion in commitments and $2.7 billion in outstandings.
Prior to his role as Senior Credit Officer, Lurye held key leadership positions at Valley National Bank, including Division Head of NY Commercial Banking and Team Leader of NY Commercial Banking. In these capacities, he directed group performance in budgeting, production, and portfolio management while leading relationship managers focused on driving growth in loans, deposits, and fee income. His earlier career development included significant roles at Santander Bank and Wells Fargo, both based in New York, where he honed his credit and relationship banking skills.
The addition of Lurye to Peapack Private's team signals the bank's commitment to strengthening its commercial banking capabilities in the New York market. His experience managing multi-billion dollar portfolios and leading high-performing teams positions Peapack Private to better serve commercial clients in the region. The move comes as Peapack-Gladstone Financial Corporation maintains substantial financial strength, with total assets of $7.2 billion and assets under management and/or administration of $12.3 billion as of June 30, 2025.
This hiring matters because it represents Peapack Private's strategic focus on expanding its commercial banking footprint in one of the world's most competitive financial markets. The appointment of an experienced banking professional like Lurye could enhance the bank's ability to compete for commercial lending business in New York, potentially offering businesses in the region more banking options and specialized financial services. For the broader banking industry, such strategic hires reflect ongoing competition for experienced commercial banking talent and the importance of established relationships in securing commercial lending business.
