Quantum BioPharma Wins FDA Clearance for First-in-Class Multiple Sclerosis Drug Trial

Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its Investigational New Drug application to initiate a Phase 2 clinical trial of Lucid-MS in patients with multiple sclerosis. The trial will be a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, marking the first time the drug candidate will be tested in people with MS.

Lucid-MS, also known as Lucid-21-302, is a patented, first-in-class drug candidate designed to inhibit peptidyl arginine deiminase 2 (PAD2) and target demyelination rather than broadly suppressing the immune system. This mechanism of action differentiates it from existing MS therapies, which primarily modulate or suppress immune function. The company reports that Lucid-MS previously completed Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers, with favorable safety and tolerability results.

The FDA clearance was highlighted in BioMedWire editorial coverage, which noted that Quantum BioPharma is also engaged in a parallel research collaboration with scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. That collaboration involves a PET imaging tracer designed to quantify demyelination, which could provide a valuable biomarker for assessing treatment response.

Recent analyst attention has also turned to Quantum BioPharma. Rodman & Renshaw initiated coverage of the company with a Buy rating and an $8 price target, as the company prepares Lucid-MS for its first clinical testing in people with MS. The editorial placed Quantum BioPharma alongside broader biopharmaceutical developments involving Sanofi (NASDAQ: SNY), Roche Holding AG (OTCQX: RHHBY), Biogen Inc. (NASDAQ: BIIB) and Clene Inc. (NASDAQ: CLNN), spanning vaccines, ophthalmology and neurological diseases.

Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets and biotech solutions for the treatment of challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., Quantum is focused on the research and development of its lead compound, Lucid-MS. The company states that Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, in preclinical models.

In addition to its MS program, Quantum invented UNBUZZD(TM) and spun out its OTC version to Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., led by industry veterans. Quantum retains ownership of 19.84% of Unbuzzd as of March 31, 2026, and the agreement includes royalty payments of 7% of sales until payments to Quantum total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products or alternative formulations specifically for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
