The taekwondo team of Shincheonji Church of Jesus has recently garnered international acclaim following their outstanding performance at the 2025 Park Chung-hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition in South Korea. With 25 athletes competing, the team secured an impressive tally of four gold, seven silver, and 14 bronze medals, showcasing their dedication and skill on a global platform.
Hosted by the Park Chung-hee Cup Organizing Committee and co-hosted by the Gyeongbuk Taekwondo Association and the Sangju City Taekwondo Association, the event attracted approximately 4,200 athletes from 18 countries. The competition, held at the Sangju Indoor Gymnasium from July 18-21, was a testament to the high level of talent and sportsmanship present in the taekwondo community worldwide.
Lee Jun-wi, a gold medalist from the Shincheonji team, reflected on the team's preparation and success, stating, 'Although we did not have enough training time, we tried to focus as much as possible within the given time. I am grateful that our efforts led to good results.' Coach Kim Deok-hoon also expressed pride in the team's performance, emphasizing the importance of systematic preparation for future competitions.
