The Shincheonji Taekwondo team, representing the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, has once again demonstrated their exceptional talent on the global stage by securing medals across the board at the '2025 Park Jung-hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships.' This event, which drew over 4,200 athletes from 18 countries, served as a testament to the team's dedication and skill, as well as Korea's enduring legacy in Taekwondo.
Competing in the individual recognized poomsae category, the 25-member team from Shincheonji clinched an impressive tally of 4 gold, 7 silver, and 14 bronze medals. This achievement not only underscores the team's rigorous training regimen but also marks a significant moment for cultural diplomacy, showcasing Korea's traditional martial art to an international audience.
Lee Jun-wi, a gold medalist from the team, shared insights into their preparation, emphasizing the importance of focus and perseverance despite the limited training time. Head coach Kim Deok-hoon reflected on the competitive nature of the tournament and expressed pride in his team's performance, outlining plans for future competitions with enhanced training programs.
This victory at the Park Jung-hee Cup follows the team's previous success at the '2025 Kim Un-yong Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships' in Busan, where all participating members also won medals. Their consistent performance in both domestic and international competitions cements their reputation as a leading Taekwondo team with a blend of skill and strategic management.
Beyond competitive achievements, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus is committed to nurturing talent and promoting healthy lifestyles through sports. The church's support for the Taekwondo team is part of a broader initiative to contribute positively to society and encourage community engagement in sports and cultural activities.
