Simply Me Photography Exhibit Aims to Boost Children's Confidence Through Art

The Simply Me community photography project opens October 6 at The Frame Center Gallery in Hanover, Massachusetts, featuring professional portraits of South Shore children alongside their own self-portrait drawings. Artist Isabella Ripley created the exhibition to celebrate childhood identity and build self-worth through artistic expression.

The month-long exhibition culminates in a special evening event on October 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the gallery located at 152 Rockland Street. The project showcases children ages 3 to 12 from throughout the South Shore region, with Ripley working closely with families and children to create the paired portraits.

Ripley's inspiration for Simply Me stems from her personal childhood experience. When her parents divorced, a single portrait of herself became a constant reminder of her worth. That printed photograph hung in my living room and reminded me that I was still important, still seen, still loved, Ripley explained. That printed photograph became an anchor for me. Simply Me was born out of that experience the belief that a printed piece of artwork can help a child hold onto their confidence, even when life shifts around them.

The exhibition represents more than just artistic display it serves as a community-building initiative that brings families, neighbors, and the community together to cheer on our kids and remind us of the importance of celebrating who they are right now, according to Ripley. The imaginative pairing gives children the chance to see themselves as artists, superstars, and valued members of the community.

The October 22 event will feature special activities designed to make children feel celebrated, including a red carpet entrance, VIP tags for all participants, a child-friendly scavenger hunt, swag bags for families, and light refreshments. Attendees can also enter a raffle for a chance to win a portrait session. The exhibition runs daily from October 6 through November 3 at The Frame Center Gallery, providing multiple opportunities for community members to view the paired portraits.

This project highlights the psychological importance of visual representation in childhood development.
