The Storm Windows Release New Live Single 'There's a Reason for Saturday Nights'

Paper Garden Records recording artists The Storm Windows today released a new single from their forthcoming LIVE album: "There's a Reason for Saturday Nights." The track was recorded live before an enthusiastic audience at Tank Studio in Burlington, Vermont on November 1, 2025. Performing on the recording are The Storm Windows Trio: Rob Mathews on guitar and vocals, Don Mathews on upright bass and vocals, and Erik Anderson on drums.

The single is being released on the PGRoots label of Paper Garden Records and will be followed by the release of a full album, including on vinyl for those who catch a live show this summer. Audio for the track was produced and mixed by Ben Collett and Julia Rangel at Tank Recording Studios. As of today, the single is available on social media platforms and can be pre-streamed at this link.

The Storm Windows are known as purveyors, some say inventors, of "Power-Folk," with live performances described as the "Folk Ramones" by Spin Magazine. Critics have labeled their music "New Americana – a blend of folk, rock and even jazz laced sonics." The band takes their name from a song title of musical hero John Prine, but also as an appropriate description of veteran musicians who have weathered storms and are still standing and singing about it.

This single is the first release on the PGRoots label and portends the upcoming full live album to be released on August 21. The release is significant for the band and the label, marking a new chapter for both. For fans of The Storm Windows, this single offers a preview of the energy and sound that will define the live album. The inclusion of a vinyl release indicates the band's commitment to traditional formats, appealing to audiophiles and collectors.

The impact on the industry may be modest, but for the Americana and folk-rock scenes, the continued output from a band praised for their live performances reinforces the vitality of Power-Folk. The Storm Windows play both showcases and bar gigs, and tour dates are available on their website at thestormwindows.com.
