TOMY International, in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, has announced a limited-edition die-cast model of the K.I.T.T. car from the hit Knight Rider TV series. The replica will be available for pre-order from September 23 through October 23, 2025, as part of a crowd-funded project aiming to produce 3,000 pieces. This initiative represents the second crowd-funded collaboration between TOMY and Universal, highlighting a growing trend in leveraging fan support to bring niche collector items to market.
The K.I.T.T. model is authentically replicated in 1:10 scale, measuring 10 inches by 8.25 inches by 5.25 inches when closed, with die-cast metal parts. It features functional interior and exterior LED lights that are TV series-accurate, a detailed interior, rotating license plate, and a voice recognition interface allowing collectors to interact with K.I.T.T. Additional modes include transforming Super Pursuit Mode, Emergency Brake System panels, and a Ski Mode display stand. This is the first K.I.T.T. car offered at this scale in die-cast, making it a unique addition to the collector market.
Morgan Weyl, Managing Director of Licensing and Global Development at TOMY International, emphasized the design care taken to provide an immersive experience. The model includes features such as hidden touch sensors to activate Super Pursuit Mode, light and voice effects, a light-up dashboard and LED screen, and a specifically designed Knight Rider K.I.T.T. Collectible Cutaway Poster illustrated by Matthew Cushman. The premium collector packaging and the inclusion of voice recognition, where fans can interact with the legendary voice of K.I.T.T., are standout elements aimed at enhancing collector enthusiasm.
The TOMY Knight Rider K.I.T.T. car will weigh approximately 8 lbs. and be priced at $399 USD, available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Production will begin in the fall after the goal of 3,000 pieces is met, with delivery scheduled for early 2027. TOMY is supporting the announcement with a robust digital campaign targeting Knight Rider fans in these regions and promoting the preview on knightrider-signup.tomy.com. This approach not only engages the existing fanbase but also taps into the nostalgia market, which has shown significant growth in recent years.
This collaboration is important as it demonstrates how legacy media properties can be revitalized through innovative product offerings and direct fan engagement. For the toy and collectibles industry, it underscores the effectiveness of crowd-funding in mitigating production risks while ensuring market demand. For consumers, it provides an opportunity to own a highly detailed, interactive piece of television history, potentially increasing the value of such collectibles over time. The project also reflects broader trends in the entertainment industry, where partnerships between toy manufacturers and content creators are becoming increasingly crucial for extending the lifespan and profitability of iconic franchises.
