Trilogy Metals Launches 2026 Field Program at Alaska Critical Minerals District

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) announced the start of its 2026 summer exploration program at the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects in Alaska’s Ambler Mining District, a region considered one of the richest copper-dominant districts in the world. The fully funded program targets the high-grade Arctic copper-zinc-lead-gold-silver project and supports regional exploration across the 100-kilometer volcanogenic massive sulfide belt.

The company stated that Ambler Metals, its 50/50 joint venture with South32, plans to complete approximately 40 drill holes during the field season, including at least 5,400 meters of drilling. This work will support mine design, permitting, and exploration activities at the Arctic Project. The timing is critical as global demand for copper and other critical minerals surges, driven by the energy transition and electrification. The Arctic Project could become a significant domestic source of these metals, reducing reliance on foreign supply chains.

Trilogy also announced the appointment of Ron Rimelman as president of Ambler Metals, where he will lead permitting, exploration, and development efforts across the Arctic and Bornite projects. His leadership comes as the joint venture advances toward future development decisions, potentially impacting the mining industry and local communities.

The Ambler Mining District hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt. The district spans approximately 190,929 hectares and includes the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit. Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, providing a framework for exploration and development in cooperation with local communities.

This announcement matters because it signals continued investment in Alaska’s critical minerals sector amid growing geopolitical tensions and supply chain vulnerabilities. If successful, the Arctic Project could bolster North American copper production, supporting industries from electric vehicles to power grids. The program also underscores the importance of responsible resource development that respects subsistence livelihoods.
