UGI Utilities is embarking on a significant system upgrade project in Union Township, including parts of Winfield, starting June 23. This initiative underscores the utility's dedication to enhancing the safety and reliability of its services. The project, expected to wrap up by early September, involves gas main replacements and service line upgrades, necessitating road closures and detours on Trutt Road, Woodsedge Drive, and Felmey Road, among others.
The construction, scheduled on weekdays from 7am to 5pm, will inevitably disrupt daily commutes and local business operations, with parking restrictions and occasional interruptions to natural gas service. UGI has assured that it will coordinate closely with affected residents and businesses to minimize inconvenience, including property access for equipment inspection and relighting.
Beyond the immediate disruptions, the project presents a silver lining for some households and businesses along the route, offering them the chance to switch to natural gas. This option could lead to long-term energy savings and environmental benefits, aligning with broader efforts to transition towards cleaner energy sources.
The completion timeline is subject to weather and working conditions, with final paving and restoration to follow the underground work. This project is a critical step in modernizing the local infrastructure, ensuring the community's energy needs are met efficiently and sustainably for years to come.
