The recent installation of new signage for the Holy Chalice Urban Route in València marks a significant advancement in the city's efforts to enhance its historical and cultural heritage. The initiative allows both residents and visitors to independently explore the key sites associated with the Holy Chalice, culminating at València Cathedral, where the relic has been preserved since the fifteenth century. This development is expected to strengthen València's position as a leading destination for cultural tourism in Europe.
The International Association of the Cultural Route The Way of the Holy Grail of Europe toured the newly signposted route, presenting the official Way of the Holy Grail Pilgrim Credential. This credential highlights the connection between the urban route and the larger historic route linking Jerusalem, Rome, Aragón, and València. The new interpretative panels, installed by the City Council of València, feature historical information, a complete route map, and QR codes providing multilingual content. These elements reinforce the city's commitment to accessible and innovative cultural tourism.
For the International Association, this signage is more than a tourism initiative; it is a decisive step toward promoting the heritage of the Holy Chalice internationally within the framework of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Programme. This positions València not only as the culmination of the Holy Chalice's documented history but also as the starting point for a new strategy of European cultural cooperation. The Association has formally congratulated the City Council and presented its institutional proposal, "València: Gateway to the European Cultural Route: The Way of the Holy Grail," inviting the city to participate in the 15th Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, scheduled for September 23-25, 2026, in Yerevan, Armenia.
The initiative is supported by cooperation agreements between the City Council of València, through its Department of Entrepreneurship, and the International Association, as well as between the Provincial Council of València – Turisme València and the Cultural Association The Way of the Holy Grail. These agreements reflect a shared commitment to cultural heritage, entrepreneurship, sustainable tourism, and the European projection of València. The collaboration enables awareness-raising, promotional, and outreach initiatives that strengthen València's cultural identity and its status as an international destination linked to heritage, scientific research, and tourism innovation.
The Way of the Holy Grail is a cultural cooperation project connecting various European territories through a historical narrative grounded in scientific research. Its historic route links Jerusalem, Rome, Huesca, San Juan de la Peña, Aragón, and València, while current partnerships extend its international dimension to France, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, and Monaco, as well as the Holy See.
