Yiwu Global Digital Trade Center Opens, Establishing New Digital Commerce Standards

The Yiwu Global Digital Trade Center, the flagship project of the city's sixth-generation market, officially opened on October 14, completing the market's latest upgrade and signaling Yiwu's strategic shift from traditional trade to a full-scale digital-commerce ecosystem. This development positions the commercial city in Zhejiang Province as a global hub characterized by fashion, international standards, modernity, digital integration, and low-carbon operations.

Covering 1.25 million square meters, the center integrates five distinct zones: market areas, office buildings, commercial districts, apartments, and the innovative Digital Trade Hub. The market already hosts vendors specializing in fashion jewelry, creative and trendy toys, and smart equipment, with more than half being second-generation merchants, next-generation start-ups, or brand and intellectual property owners. This demographic shift indicates a generational transition toward more technologically sophisticated business operations.

The center's digital transformation is most evident in its widespread adoption of artificial intelligence technologies. Over 3,700 new stall-holders actively use and sell AI tools, while buyers can navigate the massive complex using AI assistance to locate products, shops, and contacts with unprecedented speed. Zhou Jian, General Manager of Yiwu China Commodities City Big Data Co., Ltd., explained that tenants are mass-producing promotional videos using the in-house Xiaoshang AI Video Creator system. What previously required a week and cost upwards of RMB 1,000 (approximately $140) per video can now be accomplished in minutes by vendors simply speaking "1-2-3-4-5" to the camera and adding text, with the system automatically generating multilingual versions.

The AI integration extends beyond marketing into product development and design. Cao Fanyue, owner of Muqi Jewelry, noted that silver-jewelry development was traditionally capital-intensive, but the Xiaoshang AI system now transforms ideas into designs instantly, describing the process as both fast and inspiring. Her company's monthly output now exceeds 200 new stock-keeping units, demonstrating the productivity gains possible through digital transformation.

The center establishes one high-level Digital Trade Hub and three core platforms that collectively undergird end-to-end digital commerce. These include Chinagoods for comprehensive digital trading services, a digital supply-chain platform for efficient logistics management, and Yiwu Pay for streamlined financial settlements. The integration of these systems creates a seamless digital ecosystem that supports the entire trade process from product conception to final delivery and payment.

Located approximately 300 kilometers from Shanghai in Zhejiang Province, Yiwu has long been recognized as a commercial and trade city with vibrant markets and unlimited business opportunities. The city has previously released China's first "Market Credit Index" and has been reputed by authoritative organizations as the world's largest small-commodity wholesale market. With the arrival of the digital trade era, Yiwu has positioned itself at the forefront of market iterative upgrades, leveraging its established trade infrastructure while embracing digital transformation.

The center also implements numerous digital-empowerment scenarios while supporting the rapid expansion of AI large models, digital trade, and cross-border e-commerce. This comprehensive approach to digital integration represents a significant advancement in global trade infrastructure, potentially setting new standards for efficiency, accessibility, and innovation in wholesale markets worldwide. The transformation demonstrates how traditional commercial centers can evolve to meet the demands of the digital economy while maintaining their competitive advantages in physical market presence and established trade networks.
