The 10th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit will be celebrated on September 18, 2024, in South Korea and simultaneously in 122 countries. This year's theme, 'Creating World Peace Community Through Regional Collaboration,' underscores a decade-long commitment to global peace and envisions future strategies to enhance global harmony.
Heavenly Culture, World Peace, and Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace organization, initiated the first HWPL World Peace Summit in 2014, gathering over a thousand global leaders from sectors such as politics, religion, women's groups, youth organizations, and media outlets. These leaders, representing around 140 countries, addressed critical issues including conflict resolution, religious harmony, and the implementation of legal instruments for lasting peace.
The purpose of this year's anniversary is to review the progress made since 2014 and to discuss future peace initiatives. The event aims to unite regional talents and establish essential networks to develop tailored peace strategies, thereby strengthening regional networks to address local peace threats. Various sessions will be held in each participating country to achieve these goals.
The slogan for this year's summit is, 'Let's have everyone become a messenger of peace,' reflecting HWPL's belief in individual responsibility in promoting peace. HWPL plans to collect peace messages from people worldwide and reveal them at the event, symbolizing the global desire for peace and unity.
Since the agreements signed in 2014, HWPL and its global partners have been committed to addressing global challenges such as military tensions, economic disputes, climate change, and cybersecurity threats through enhanced regional cooperation and collective action. HWPL aims to establish a robust peace governance framework that connects international organizations, governments, and civil societies.
Reflecting on the previous summit, Chairman Lee Man-hee of HWPL remarked, 'Why should the lives of young people be sacrificed in war? What is politics, and for whom is it for? When war breaks out, it is young people who are sacrificed. Peace cannot be achieved through words alone. If peace had won in this world, there would have been no regrettable deaths. We must leave peace as a legacy to the global community where our descendants will live.'
