Andina Copper Corporation (TSX-V: ANDC | FSE: FIR | OTCQB: PMMCF) announced further drill results from its Cobrasco Project in Choco, Colombia, confirming a significant northwesterly extension of near-surface copper-molybdenum mineralization. Drillhole CDH009, the fourth hole from a single drill pad, returned 502 meters grading 0.40% copper, 73 ppm molybdenum, and 1.22 g/t silver starting at 38 meters downhole. This includes higher-grade intervals such as 186 meters at 0.50% copper. The results expand the drill-defined mineralized footprint at Cobrasco Central to approximately 1,200 meters by 550 meters, with mineralization remaining open in all directions.
The company is conducting wide-spaced scout drilling to assess the overall scale potential of the mineralized system from a new platform 350 meters northwest of the previous site. Two additional drillholes, CDH010 and CDH011, have been completed from the original pad, with assays pending. Preparations are underway to introduce a second drill rig to expedite exploration and enable simultaneous testing of potential new porphyry centers.
Joseph van den Elsen, President and CEO, stated: “The results of hole CDH009 validate this approach, significantly extending shallow, near-surface copper-molybdenum mineralization 350m to the northwest. Incredibly, all nine drill holes reported to-date have returned wide intervals of high-grade, near-surface Cu-Mo mineralization.”
Geologically, CDH009 intersected a leached cap with supergene oxidation to 41 meters, below which significant chalcopyrite mineralization occurs as disseminations and veinlets. Copper grades decrease with depth as sericitic alteration transitions to a lower-grade potassic-altered domain, but mineralization persists to the end of the hole at 954 meters. The highest grades are found in the upper 300 meters, associated with intensive sericite alteration.
These results are important as they demonstrate the potential for a large, near-surface porphyry system in Colombia, a country with growing mining investment. For the industry, the continuous expansion of mineralization supports the prospectivity of Andina Copper's portfolio. The company holds discoveries along the Andean porphyry belt in Argentina and Colombia, as well as a copper-gold target in Chile.
Quality assurance and quality control procedures were performed, with core samples sent to ALS laboratories in Medellin and Lima. The technical information was approved by Francisco Montes, a qualified person under NI 43-101.
