Birmingham OB/Gyn to Open Trussville Women's Health Center, Expanding Access to Comprehensive Care in Eastern Alabama

Birmingham OB/Gyn announced plans to develop the Birmingham OB/Gyn – Trussville Women's Health Center at The Pinnacle Shopping Center in Trussville, Alabama, marking a significant expansion of women's healthcare services in the region. The new center will serve as a full-time regional hub for eastern Jefferson, St. Clair, and Blount Counties, transitioning from a limited clinic schedule to a comprehensive facility offering appointments Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until noon.

The expansion addresses growing demand in one of Alabama's fastest-growing regions. According to David Carmichael, Chief Executive Officer of Birmingham OB/Gyn, the project is about making comprehensive healthcare more convenient. “This project isn't simply about opening a larger office,” Carmichael said. “It's about making it easier for women to receive comprehensive healthcare closer to home. The women and families we serve have shown us through their travel patterns that they value convenient access to comprehensive women's healthcare, and this investment allows us to better meet those needs for years to come.”

The Trussville Women's Health Center will offer a range of services under one roof, including comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care, dedicated ultrasound services, screening mammography, Breast Arterial Calcification (BAC) assessment, on-site laboratory services, Non-Stress Testing (NST), women's wellness services, and expanded appointment availability. By consolidating these services, patients will have greater opportunity to complete annual wellness visits, screening mammography, ultrasound, laboratory testing, and other preventive healthcare services during a single visit.

A key addition is 3D screening mammography, made possible through a partnership with Onsite Women's Health. The center will also offer Mammo with heart, an AI-enabled clinical program that identifies breast arterial calcifications (BAC) during routine mammograms. BAC is a marker associated with cardiovascular disease, allowing for earlier detection and intervention. David Freedman, president and chief growth officer at Onsite, emphasized the impact: “Onsite Women's Health is proud to partner with Birmingham OB/Gyn to expand access to innovative breast health and imaging services for women throughout eastern Jefferson, St. Clair and Blount counties. By bringing advanced 3D screening mammography and our Mammo with heart program directly into the practice, we're making it more convenient for women to prioritize both their breast and heart health in a trusted, familiar setting.”

Women whose BAC findings warrant additional evaluation will be encouraged to follow up with their primary care physician or a cardiovascular specialist. Birmingham OB/Gyn is committed to collaborating with community physicians to ensure appropriate follow-up care based on individual risk factors.

The center complements Birmingham OB/Gyn's existing locations in Birmingham and Hoover and maintains its partnership with Grandview Medical Center, where physicians will continue providing obstetrical care and deliveries. Melissa Walker, Director of the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the investment: “Trussville is thrilled to welcome this investment in women's healthcare. Birmingham OB/Gyn and Onsite Women's Health are bringing vital, convenient services closer to home for women in Trussville and the surrounding communities, and our Chamber is excited to support a project that strengthens families and enhances quality of life across the communities we proudly serve.”

Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with additional updates and a grand opening announcement to follow. The Trussville Women's Health Center represents a long-term commitment to expanding access to comprehensive women's healthcare, aiming to reduce unnecessary travel, improve preventive care, and provide more services in one location for healthier women, families, and communities throughout eastern Alabama.
