PCOS is a prevalent endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by various symptoms including hirsutism, bloating, irregular periods, hormonal acne, and weight gain. The situation is particularly critical for Black women, who are twice as likely to face fertility challenges compared to white women and yet are half as likely to receive treatment. Additionally, they face an increased risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease, more severe experiences of hirsutism and insulin resistance, and a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than any other racial group. Systemic healthcare disparities further compound these issues, leading to longer delays in diagnosis and treatment.
