Blue Lagoon Resources Inc. has announced the commissioning of its Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor water treatment system at the Dome Mountain Water Treatment Plant, designed to meet all regulatory discharge standards. The system, developed in collaboration with environmental consultant Soren Jensen from SRK Consulting, represents a critical environmental safeguard for the company's mining operations.
The MBBR system is engineered to treat mine water efficiently and in full compliance with permit conditions, with capacity to handle up to 400 liters per minute while current output remains at approximately 20-40 liters per minute. This infrastructure supports Blue Lagoon's commitment to environmental stewardship while enabling safe underground development.
Underground mining operations are scheduled to commence on September 24, 2025, beginning with development work. The company expects to achieve production rates of 100 tonnes per day within four weeks and 150 tonnes per day within twelve weeks, with five to six working faces exposed for operational flexibility. All mine waste will remain underground, further aligning with environmental and regulatory commitments.
To enhance operational readiness, Blue Lagoon has signed a Mutual Aid Agreement with New Gold Inc., ensuring rapid access to additional emergency support if required. The underground program will be led by Mike McCartin, with support from Roughstock Mining Services for establishing mining protocols and standard operating procedures.
President and CEO Rana Vig stated that the company is entering a transformational phase with a fully permitted project, noting that Dome Mountain is one of only nine projects permitted in British Columbia since 2015. The project's advancement represents significant progress in responsible mineral development within the region, combining environmental care with operational efficiency.
The commissioning of the water treatment system and commencement of underground operations mark important milestones for Blue Lagoon's path to becoming a cash-flowing mining company. The company's approach demonstrates how modern mining operations can integrate environmental protection measures while developing mineral resources, setting a precedent for responsible resource development in British Columbia's mining sector.
