The CAHEC Foundation, in partnership with Truist and Remnant Management, Inc., hosted a back-to-school event on August 16th at Cypress Cove, a 200-unit affordable rental community in Wilmington, NC. The event, which saw over 200 residents in attendance, distributed 150 backpacks filled with essential school supplies such as notebooks, folders, crayons, and pencils. To enhance the experience, children had the opportunity to decorate water bottles, and attendees were treated to pizza and Italian Ice.
Stefanie Lee, Community Relations Manager for CAHEC, commented on the significance of the event: "We were honored to work with Truist to provide backpacks and necessary school supplies to the residents at Cypress Cove. Providing resources that help children have a successful start to the school year is an impactful experience to have. Events like this are what brings communities together!"
The presence of Truist volunteers was a notable addition to the event. They engaged with residents regarding their banking needs and conducted a Financial Fraud trivia game aimed at educating parents on financial safety. This multifaceted approach not only addressed immediate material needs but also aimed to enhance the financial literacy of the community.
The back-to-school event underscores the CAHEC Foundation's commitment to fostering community engagement and providing essential resources to residents in its affordable housing properties. The event's success exemplifies how collaborative partnerships can create tangible benefits for communities. The foundation's efforts are part of a broader mission to invest in low-income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, new markets tax credits, and renewable energy credits. These initiatives, combined with loan programs, wellness and education programs, and property management services, aim to create life-changing opportunities for residents in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
With plans to continue hosting similar resident events in the future, the CAHEC Foundation is poised to make a lasting impact on the communities it serves. The success of this back-to-school event is a testament to the foundation's dedication to improving the quality of life for families in affordable housing.
