GARDEN GROVE, Calif. — As Garden Grove and neighboring Orange County communities continue to manage disruption from a recent chemical incident and subsequent evacuations, Chef Nourish is extending targeted support to families and individuals whose dietary requirements go beyond standard emergency food options.
Chef Nourish, a woman-owned, veteran-owned, minority-owned small business, is launching the Garden Grove Prepared Meal Support program, making ready-to-heat, chef-prepared meals available to affected residents, families, seniors, caregivers, hotel guests, responders, and individuals managing medical, cultural, allergy, performance, religious, or lifestyle dietary needs. The company is waiving the delivery fee on prepared meal orders for affected Garden Grove and Orange County households.
“Emergency food is not one-size-fits-all,” said Chef LaLa, founder of Chef Nourish. “So many people are helping right now, and we are incredibly grateful for the Red Cross, Orange County agencies, first responders, hotels, volunteers, and community partners who are showing up. I wanted Chef Nourish to support a very specific gap: people who need to eat carefully, even during an emergency.”
Chef LaLa, a longtime Orange County resident and advocate for community-based wellness, noted that stress, displacement, and sudden disruptions to food access can be particularly challenging for people with special dietary needs. “Being away from home does not pause diabetes, heart disease, kidney concerns, food allergies, celiac disease, autoimmune issues, pregnancy nutrition, sensory food needs, athletic training, cultural food traditions, religious food practices, or the way a family has learned to eat to stay healthy,” she said.
Chef Nourish can accommodate a broad range of dietary needs, including diabetic-conscious meals, low-sodium and heart-conscious meals, gluten-free meals, dairy-free meals, allergy-aware meals, senior-friendly meals, high-protein meals, macro-balanced meals, anti-inflammatory-style meals, vegetarian and plant-forward meals, culturally diverse meals, family-friendly meals, responder performance meals, hotel-friendly ready-to-heat meals, and prepared meals for families temporarily without kitchen access.
“Some people can eat whatever is available during an emergency, and we are grateful those options exist,” Chef LaLa said. “But many people cannot. A senior with heart disease may need low-sodium meals. A person with diabetes may need balance and consistency. A child with sensory needs may only tolerate certain foods. A person with celiac disease or allergies needs ingredient awareness. A responder working long shifts needs real fuel. A family staying in a hotel may simply need healthy prepared meals they can heat and rely on.”
Chef Nourish serves Los Angeles and Orange County and prepares and delivers thousands of meals weekly. The company is physician-led and nutritionist-guided, with culinary leadership from Chef LaLa. Affected households may call Chef Nourish at (323) 909-8933 and mention Garden Grove Prepared Meal Support. More information is available at ChefNourish.com.
Chef Nourish encourages all residents to follow official evacuation orders and guidance from the City of Garden Grove, Orange County, Orange County Fire Authority, the American Red Cross, and other emergency agencies.
