Community Food Drive Collects Thousands of Pounds for Middlesex County Pantries

A community-wide effort to combat food insecurity in Middlesex County resulted in thousands of pounds of food for local pantries. On August 5, residents, volunteers, and organizations came together for "Flood the Food Banks," a countywide food drive that collected an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of non-perishable items. The initiative was organized in partnership with Middlesex United Way as part of the organization's Middlesex Pantry Project, which aims to strengthen local food pantries and ensure access to nutritious food throughout the year.

The one-day effort distributed contributions among 13 food pantries and food banks across Middlesex County, including two direct drop-offs to smaller pantries. Donations included commonly requested staples such as canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal, shelf-stable milk, canned tuna and chicken, and macaroni and cheese. Collection sites were set up at participating grocery stores and community locations throughout the county.

The Flood Law Firm served as the presenting partner for the initiative, helping raise awareness and encouraging community participation. The firm's team also volunteered, interacting with residents and contributing directly to organizations working to address food insecurity. Brian Flood, a partner at the firm, emphasized the importance of giving back: "Giving back to the communities where we live, work, and serve our clients is an important part of who we are. Flood the Food Banks brought our team together with Middlesex United Way and community members for a meaningful effort that will help support families and individuals throughout Middlesex County."

The event highlighted the ongoing need for year-round donations. While charitable giving often peaks during the holiday season, local food pantries serve families and individuals who need assistance all year. By coordinating donations in August, the event helped provide additional resources to support these organizations. The drive also received local media coverage, including reporting from WTNH on the event and a sponsored feature highlighting the partnership.

The success of the food drive demonstrates the impact of community collaboration, with thousands of pounds of food and hundreds of dollars in financial contributions reaching organizations serving Middlesex County residents. This initiative underscores the importance of sustained support for food pantries beyond the holiday season, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to essential nutrition throughout the year.
