Sha-La Music has announced the worldwide release of DownTown Mystic's new single Somebody's Always Doin' Something 2 Somebody and the Mystic Highway EP, marking a significant moment in the intersection of artificial intelligence and traditional rock music production. The single will be released to US radio on October 7 and streaming services on October 10, while the EP containing 6 songs will be available worldwide via The Orchard/Sony Music on November 7.
The release is notable for featuring the first AI video created by Richard Levinsohn/Rick Lee Vinson Group for DownTown Mystic, representing how emerging technologies are being adopted in the music industry. This development matters because it shows how established artists are embracing new technological tools while maintaining musical integrity, potentially influencing how future music videos are produced and distributed.
The Mystic Highway EP continues DownTown Mystic's commitment to high-quality rock'n'roll in the 21st century, featuring an elite rhythm section of drummer Steve Holley and bassist Paul Page on five of the six tracks. The project includes contributions from keyboard wizard Jeff Levine (Joe Cocker, Hall & Oates) on Moog, piano, and organ, demonstrating how veteran musicians continue to shape contemporary rock music. Guitarists Lance Doss, Bruce Engler, and Justin "JJ" Jordan bring their distinctive styles to the mix, with Engler co-writing and singing on Read The Signs, a rock raga of mystical dimensions also included on his One More Chance album featuring DownTown Mystic.
The importance of this release extends beyond the music itself, as DownTown Mystic has achieved significant sync-licensing success with music in over 250 TV shows and films. In 2025 alone, three songs were sync-licensed in movie soundtracks, including two in Everything's Going to Be Great starring Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney, and one in Sovereign with Dennis Quaid and Nick Offerman. This level of placement indicates the commercial viability and industry recognition of DownTown Mystic's sound, which critics describe as "crisp drums, dynamic bass, searing guitar tones, and earnest, textured vocals—all harmonized in a rich audio tapestry that feels both familiar and refreshing" according to Jamsphere Magazine.
Looking ahead to 2026, DownTown Mystic plans the On E Street Remix project in January, featuring remixes of tracks recorded with Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent, drummer and bassist for Bruce Springsteen's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame E Street Band. This continued collaboration with music industry legends underscores the project's credibility and influence within the rock genre. Listeners can experience the new music through various platforms, including the Somebody's Always Doin' Something 2 Somebody single and the complete Mystic Highway EP.
