Greg and Hali Scott have transformed an adventurous ski journey into an inspiring narrative of parent-child collaboration by completing a comprehensive tour of Alberta's ski resorts. The duo successfully visited and skied at all 39 lift-serviced ski areas in the province, covering an impressive 8,300 kilometers during their expedition.
The tour, named 'The Skadi Tour' after the Norse mythology goddess of snow and skiing, represents more than just a recreational challenge. It is a strategic effort to highlight the importance of youth mentorship and community engagement through the Tidbits of Change Foundation, which the Scotts founded to encourage collaborative projects between youth and their mentors.
Their journey took them across diverse geographical landscapes of Alberta, from the Cypress Hills in the southeast to Vista Ridge in Fort McMurray, and including eight ski areas in the northwest, such as Blue Ridge Mountain Resort in La Crete. Each destination offered unique experiences and opportunities to connect with local ski communities.
The expedition has garnered significant social media attention, generating nearly two million interactions on Instagram. Their storytelling approach, including segments like 'Chairlift Chatter' featuring local ski legends, has captivated audiences and drawn attention to their mission of inspiring youth collaboration.
Supported by sponsors including HEAD skis, Kal-Tire, Descente, Sundance Ski & Snowboard Shop, and Hummingbird Micro Homes, the tour culminated at Mt. Norquay Ski Resort in Banff. The sponsors not only provided equipment and logistical support but also contributed additional youth bursaries to the foundation's efforts.
This remarkable journey underscores the potential of parent-child partnerships in creating meaningful experiences that can inspire broader community engagement. By transforming a skiing adventure into a platform for youth empowerment, Greg and Hali Scott demonstrate how passion, collaboration, and creativity can drive positive social change.
