U.S. Term Limits announced today that former Texas State Representative Jarvis Johnson has agreed to serve as Texas State Co-Chair for the organization. Johnson brings more than three decades of public service and legislative experience to the effort to enact congressional term limits, a reform that advocates say is needed to restore accountability in Washington, D.C.
“I am honored to serve as Texas State Co-Chair for U.S. Term Limits and help advance this important cause,” said Johnson. “Americans are frustrated with a Congress that has become increasingly disconnected from the people it serves. Congressional term limits will help restore accountability, encourage citizen leadership, and bring fresh ideas and new energy to our nation’s capital.”
Johnson served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2016 through January 2025, representing District 139. During his tenure, he championed legislation on public education, mental health, criminal justice reform, and economic opportunity. He also helped secure more than $2.1 billion in investments for flood control, infrastructure, historically Black colleges and universities, and neighborhood revitalization.
“Our Founding Fathers never intended public office to become a lifetime career,” Johnson continued. “When elected officials remain in office for decades, Washington becomes more focused on preserving political power than solving the problems facing hardworking Americans. Term limits will help ensure that elected officials remain focused on serving the people rather than serving themselves.”
Prior to his legislative service, Johnson made history as one of the youngest individuals elected to the Houston City Council, representing District B. His career includes work as a successful business owner and community leader, with a focus on youth mentorship and economic opportunity. He has dedicated more than 30 years to building stronger communities throughout Texas.
