Hartig Drug Adds Nefense Nasal Care Line, Offering Drug-Free Options in Tri-State Area

Hartig Drug Company has announced the addition of Nefense nasal care products at select locations in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, expanding its offerings to include drug-free options for daily nasal hygiene. The new assortment brings together two companies with roots in Dubuque, Iowa, and provides customers with a range of products designed for different ages and needs.

The Nefense product line, developed by Richard Downs, DDS, is backed by over forty years of clinical expertise in oral health, breathing, and airway function. Hartig Drug, founded in Dubuque in 1904, has served generations of families across the Tri-State Area. Charlie Hartig, CEO of Hartig Drug Company, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "There is real meaning in this too: a Dubuque developed product line now on Hartig shelves, reaching the communities we serve together."

The Nefense products available at participating Hartig Drug stores include Hyponasal, an HOCl nasal spray for routine nasal cleansing; Hyponasal Junior, formulated for children; Hypobaby, an ultra-gentle spray for infants and young children; and Xyloclean, a xylitol nasal spray for moisturizing nasal passages. These products are designed to rinse away everyday dust, pollen, and airborne particles without medication or steroids.

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a key ingredient in several Nefense products, is a natural molecule produced by white blood cells as part of the body's immune response. Published randomized clinical research has evaluated low-concentration HOCl nasal irrigation in people with chronic sinonasal symptoms and allergic rhinitis, though these studies were not specifically on Nefense-branded products. F. Hunter Fuerste, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist in Dubuque, noted, "HOCl is still in its infancy in terms of its role in medicine... It is a gentle, nontoxic, naturally occurring molecule produced by white blood cells that has both anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties."

The addition of Nefense aligns with Hartig Drug's long-standing focus on providing health, wellness, and everyday consumer products, including those developed by local and regional businesses. This move offers customers an alternative to medicated decongestants, with products tailored for different ages and needs, from adults to infants. The locally developed product line now sits on shelves in a pharmacy company that has called Dubuque home for over 120 years, strengthening the community connection.

Nefense products are available now at participating Hartig Drug locations. Customers can visit hartigdrug.com/stores to find a nearby store and contact the location directly to confirm availability. For more information about Nefense, visit nefense.com.
